Only a few days ago, I gave “the buddy system” three cheers. Meeting Emily at 5:45 was the only motivation I needed to get me out of bed and to the gym after a weekend of Irish binging.
Last night, I set my alarm for 5AM with every intention of meeting Emily at 5:30 to grab bikes for spin class. I was looking forward to it – I even drafted this morning’s post about how much I enjoy spinning.
Enter: a night of restless sleep thanks to allergy symptoms like coughing, sneezing and itchy eyes. UGH. When my alarm went off this morning, I felt a sense of dread. Please don’t let it be time to get up! I haven’t slept a wink!
I texted Emily telling her I was exhausted, and she so graciously accepted to reschedule. Texting someone “Thanks, goodnight” at 5AM is always weird.
The point I’m trying to make is that I chose not to go to the gym. The Buddy System only works if I want it to work. Aside from rare circumstances, there’s no reason I can’t make it to the gym. I just need to remind myself of that next time I set my alarm for 5AM. New fitness motto: No excuses. Play like a champion.
So I don’t have a question this morning. Just a statement: Don’t stand in the way of your own success today.
