When The Buddy System Fails

Only a few days ago, I gave “the buddy system” three cheers. Meeting Emily at 5:45 was the only motivation I needed to get me out of bed and to the gym after a weekend of Irish binging.

Last night, I set my alarm for 5AM with every intention of meeting Emily at 5:30 to grab bikes for spin class. I was looking forward to it – I even drafted this morning’s post about how much I enjoy spinning.

Enter: a night of restless sleep thanks to allergy symptoms like coughing, sneezing and itchy eyes. UGH. When my alarm went off this morning, I felt a sense of dread. Please don’t let it be time to get up! I haven’t slept a wink!

I texted Emily telling her I was exhausted, and she so graciously accepted to reschedule. Texting someone “Thanks, goodnight” at 5AM is always weird.

The point I’m trying to make is that I chose not to go to the gym. The Buddy System only works if I want it to work. Aside from rare circumstances, there’s no reason I can’t make it to the gym. I just need to remind myself of that next time I set my alarm for 5AM. New fitness motto: No excuses. Play like a champion. ;)

So I don’t have a question this morning. Just a statement: Don’t stand in the way of your own success today.

Well…I only feel SLIGHTLY guilty about missing the gym this morning. I do have to say though, picking up my phone to read a text saying: “You’re exhausted too right?” was exactly what I needed this morning. Lets try again tomorrow :) And there is always BodyPump at 6:30 tonight…

  2. RULE #76!

get that body back in tip top shape. I know I wouldn’t be functioning without sleep!

and if it makes you feel better, I haven’t worked out all week. can’t get these stitches sweaty, so….. fat kid it is. ;)

  3. It happens. sleep > spin… at least from time to time

Play like a champ this afternoon. :)

  4. I think feeling sick is a great reason to sleep in – get better faster for a better quality workout! :)

  5. I like that new motto! I “chose” not to go to the gym this morning too, so now I’m “choosing” to go after work. Bleh! Bad choice on my part! Hope you feel better soon!

  6. I’ll be your buddy! ;) And 5AM is too early for anything!

  7. It helps when your buddy is your hubby and when he turns the lights on in the bedroom you both have to get up. ha. :)

  8. We have a wedding consultation tonight downtown so I planned last night to wake up and go to the gym… Rather I woke up, made bfast, and thought pinning sounded better :P I’m okay with it since pinning is just spinning minus the “s,” aka a new kinda workout?!

  9. Planning on squeezing my gym session in in about ten minutes! Don’t think I could do it if I had to wake up at 5am though…

  10. Don’t feel guilty! My allergies have been terrible this year! I’ve had three sinus headaches in the past week. Yes, I counted. Plus, you can still workout later today if you want to!

  11. I enjoyed the Wedding Crashers reference.

Evan and Avery have both suffered the past 2 weeks, makes for our morning runs and daily family walks to be close to non-exsistant. We’re all human and sometimes a rest is needed so I wouldn’t feel guilty.
