To Post or Not to Post?

Here’s the funny thing about having a blog: I share thoughts, ideas, opinions, and life updates with you – but it’s merely a fraction of what goes on in my everyday life.

Some people who read my blog feel like they know me and/or know exactly what’s going on in my life. But sometimes, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I don’t have an undocumented passion for punching babies or anything – there are just things that I simply don’t cover on The Lunchbox Diaries.

That said, I sometimes struggle with what “life content” I should share on the blog.

I love sharing good news, but I dislike feeling as though I’m bragging. I am grateful for the goodness in my life, and I share it personally with a small handful of people. I don’t get off on blasting all of my good fortune to the masses.

I’m all about sharing difficult times as well. I know that if I’m struggling with an issue, chances are, someone reading this blog is, too.

The thing is – stuff is going on in the Real Life of Colleen ;) Not bad stuff. Just stuff that keeps me occupied when I’m not working, which leaves little time to focus on The Blog, and I don’t believe in routinely posting vapid material.

The reason I’m posting today is because I know people read this blog, just like I read blogs. I have come to “know,” and dare I say, “care about” several bloggers, and I have a genuine interest in their lives!

I appreciate when they keep me in the loop, so that’s what I’m doing for the 3 or 4 of you who might feel that way about me.

Good things are happening, I’m busy, and I’ll share it with you when I can!

No – I’m not pregnant. Move along.

Oh thank god. You had me scared…….

  2. Haha I love that one of the first things that always pops into people’s heads when a blogger says they have news is that they’re pregnant (and I admit, it popped into mine as I was reading this post)! Good things that keep you busy are good! :)

    • Colleen says:

HA! I know, it always pops into my mind too! That’s why I knew I should clarify :) Yes, just busy things that make life really interesting and good :) Have a good one, Caroline!

We appreciate you letting us know you are still alive. Sometimes life just doesn’t give us “positive polly posts” everyday. I like your positive posts and upbeat topics. I’ll patiently wait. Just know that if life is giving you lemons; Lemonade is not always the answer. Sometimes you have to pick those lemons up and throw them at something or someone. ;0) See you in July.

    • Colleen says:

So true, Mary Ellen! Or sometimes you can make lemonade – just add some vodka ;)

      See you soon!!

      • mary ellen says:

Vodka goes without saying in my world. If life gives you potatoes, make vodka. Add a lemon wedge and ice. I’m wanting to throw the lemons probably because I’m waiting for the service people to fix my airconditioning. Might have made me a little cranky. I might need that lemon wedge for my Vodka before 5:00pm.

  4. Im glad to know everything that’s going on in your real life is GOOD stuff! I’m so nosy so I can’t wait to hear more details when you can share it! Btw I totally was convinced you were pregnant.

  5. haha! I’ll admit, I was wondering after your tweet this AM…

  6. Aly says:

I can honestly say that I did not think “pregnancy” :) It’s probably because people are always thinking that’s coming up for me, even though I say all the time that we’re waiting a couple years. Ugh!

Glad to hear there are good things and feel free to share or not share–it’s just nice to hear there is something good happening to a person who sounds so nice.

  7. Hahaha I feel like most of the time, when it’s a cryptic post, it means someone is preggers. Glad you clarified ;)

It IS hard to find the balance of what to post. Especially when you kind of know who’s reading, but you also don’t REALLY know who’s reading… you know?

  8. I did laugh at the prego. comment at the bottom. It does pass through people’s minds, but I figured it was not you yet.

I totally agree, having a life is good! So enjoy! :)

  9. I always go back and forth on what to/what not to post – or for posting at all.Let’s take today for example. I didn’t get home until 9:00. There’s no way I’m busting out a post right now for tomorrow when all I want to do is relax and eat puffins (done and done).

  10. Glad to hear that good things are happening for you!! I’m totally one of those people who care, so thanks for keeping me somewhat in the loop ;)

  11. As long as they’re good things, just keep on keepin’ on chica. :)

  12. It’s good to just live life sometimes! I hope things are going well!

  13. I totally know what you mean about caring for bloggers and I definitely feel that way about you! So glad to hear that good things are happening!
I love when you share good news. It makes me happy and brightens MY day a little bit when I read something happy happening to you! So please keep sharing, and don’t feel like you’re bragging.
I also struggle with what to post on my blog. Sometimes I wonder if I need to post serious things all the time, content that in some way seems more legitimate than others. But there are a lot of random things that I think about that I’d like to share and I wonder “does anyone care about this stuff?” Still figuring out the balance between my blog and my real life and where and how much the two should overlap.

  14. Hahahah I love that your clarified that you weren’t pregnant. I don’t know what good things are happening for you, but I’m happy for you!! Even though I don’t know you, I do care hehe :)

  15. Anne Kendall says:

I think I’m one of those bloggers who routinely posts vapid material ;) But hey, it’s my blog and I’ll write if I want to, right?
P.S. Loved the preg-o comment right at the end. I definitely chuckled about that for a few.

  16. kristen@ livinlifeinlouie says:

cant wait to hear about the good things!

  17. Yeah. I’m with you. Sometimes its hard to know what to say and when/if to say it. Honesty is always the best on a blog…because the reason people keep reading and looking forward to posts is they care about the REAL you (and what’s going on with you ;) ). Congrats on the “big stuff” whatever it may be!
