To Post or Not to Post?

Here’s the funny thing about having a blog: I share thoughts, ideas, opinions, and life updates with you – but it’s merely a fraction of what goes on in my everyday life.

Some people who read my blog feel like they know me and/or know exactly what’s going on in my life. But sometimes, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I don’t have an undocumented passion for punching babies or anything – there are just things that I simply don’t cover on The Lunchbox Diaries.

That said, I sometimes struggle with what “life content” I should share on the blog.

I love sharing good news, but I dislike feeling as though I’m bragging. I am grateful for the goodness in my life, and I share it personally with a small handful of people. I don’t get off on blasting all of my good fortune to the masses.

I’m all about sharing difficult times as well. I know that if I’m struggling with an issue, chances are, someone reading this blog is, too.

The thing is – stuff is going on in the Real Life of Colleen ;) Not bad stuff. Just stuff that keeps me occupied when I’m not working, which leaves little time to focus on The Blog, and I don’t believe in routinely posting vapid material.

The reason I’m posting today is because I know people read this blog, just like I read blogs. I have come to “know,” and dare I say, “care about” several bloggers, and I have a genuine interest in their lives!

I appreciate when they keep me in the loop, so that’s what I’m doing for the 3 or 4 of you who might feel that way about me.

Good things are happening, I’m busy, and I’ll share it with you when I can!

No – I’m not pregnant. Move along.

Haha I love that one of the first things that always pops into people’s heads when a blogger says they have news is that they’re pregnant (and I admit, it popped into mine as I was reading this post)! Good things that keep you busy are good! :)

HA! I know, it always pops into my mind too! That’s why I knew I should clarify :) Yes, just busy things that make life really interesting and good :) Have a good one, Caroline!

We appreciate you letting us know you are still alive. Sometimes life just doesn’t give us “positive polly posts” everyday. I like your positive posts and upbeat topics. I’ll patiently wait. Just know that if life is giving you lemons; Lemonade is not always the answer. Sometimes you have to pick those lemons up and throw them at something or someone. ;0) See you in July.

Vodka goes without saying in my world. If life gives you potatoes, make vodka. Add a lemon wedge and ice. I’m wanting to throw the lemons probably because I’m waiting for the service people to fix my airconditioning. Might have made me a little cranky. I might need that lemon wedge for my Vodka before 5:00pm.

I can honestly say that I did not think “pregnancy” :) It’s probably because people are always thinking that’s coming up for me, even though I say all the time that we’re waiting a couple years. Ugh!

Glad to hear there are good things and feel free to share or not share–it’s just nice to hear there is something good happening to a person who sounds so nice.

Hahaha I feel like most of the time, when it’s a cryptic post, it means someone is preggers. Glad you clarified ;)

It IS hard to find the balance of what to post. Especially when you kind of know who’s reading, but you also don’t REALLY know who’s reading… you know?

I always go back and forth on what to/what not to post – or for posting at all.Let’s take today for example. I didn’t get home until 9:00. There’s no way I’m busting out a post right now for tomorrow when all I want to do is relax and eat puffins (done and done).

I totally know what you mean about caring for bloggers and I definitely feel that way about you! So glad to hear that good things are happening!
I love when you share good news. It makes me happy and brightens MY day a little bit when I read something happy happening to you! So please keep sharing, and don’t feel like you’re bragging.
I also struggle with what to post on my blog. Sometimes I wonder if I need to post serious things all the time, content that in some way seems more legitimate than others. But there are a lot of random things that I think about that I’d like to share and I wonder “does anyone care about this stuff?” Still figuring out the balance between my blog and my real life and where and how much the two should overlap.

I think I’m one of those bloggers who routinely posts vapid material ;) But hey, it’s my blog and I’ll write if I want to, right?
P.S. Loved the preg-o comment right at the end. I definitely chuckled about that for a few.

Yeah. I’m with you. Sometimes its hard to know what to say and when/if to say it. Honesty is always the best on a blog…because the reason people keep reading and looking forward to posts is they care about the REAL you (and what’s going on with you ;)). Congrats on the “big stuff” whatever it may be!
