Do you know what freaks me out?
Like the I-lose-sleep-over-this kind of freak out?
I think I have some underlying fear of looking stupid in front of a crowd. I often have dreams of my teeth falling out or forgetting to wear shoes. I’ve read that those dreams mean I’m anxious about how others perceive me.
I believe it.
Last week, I had to give two presentations for small crowds. For me, The Crazy, those crowds of 50 people felt like 50 million.
As presentation times drew nearer and nearer, my mouth became dryer and dryer. My body shook on the inside and I feared I’d forget how to articulate my own name, let alone the entire presentation.
Thanks to the awesome tips from my Twitter friends and encouraging votes of confidence from my personal life friends, I managed to pull it together.
I gave the presentations, made people laugh, and got many compliments on my “relaxed, calm” presentation style.
The point of this rambling post is that I worried (I mean really worried) about something that didn’t deserve so much of my time and energy. It’s amazing how we have the ability to doubt ourselves, even when we have no reason to.
So, as a fan of personal growth (however uncomfortable it may be), I challenge you to do something today that scares the shit out of you. Think of how proud of yourself you’ll be once it’s all said and done!
Let’s chat – What’s the one thing that scares the hell out of you? And when’s the last time you did it?
