Life is so wonderful, and so full of happy things, that sometimes words fail to describe it’s goodness. If you look for them, the little things add up quickly, and it’s difficult not to be overwhelmed by joy.
Here are some little things that have happened lately that reminded me how HAPPY life can be
- My brother’s girlfriend sent me the most perfect keychain ever. #HungerGamesSuperFan
- Going out to dinner with Cory, and getting overly excited when my best friend and her parents (my “Richmond parents”) walked through the door and got seated right next to us!
- Getting a haircut and not hating it. (Alert the press: I took a selfie! I took it to send to my mom, if that makes it any less douche-y.) I’ve been known to cry after getting haircuts, so this is so not a little thing. I wish I was kidding.
- Ethiopian food. Richmond friends, you MUST check out Addis downtown! The food is incredible, and the entire experience is (what I imagine to be) super authentic. I mean, any time I eat dinner without silverware, but with injera (Ethiopian bread), I consider it to be authentic.
- Waiting all week for my beloved Friday cup of decaf coffee. It might be the crazy in me, or the fact that I have dwindled my 4 – 5 cups of coffee per week to one cup of decaf coffee per week, but man, 7-11 coffee is where it’s at.
- A Sunday morning breakfast date with my main squeeze, and breaking my one-coffee-per-week-jail sentence - rule. Watch out world, a decaffeinated rebel walks amongst you. Richmond friends, Brick House Diner in Midlothian is the perfect little breakfast place!
- Hosting a bridal shower at my house for my friend, Danielle!
- Having a doggy who just wuvs to be near me.
- Having a functioning garage door thanks to my a) my parents for buying it and b) my SUPER handy husband. Seriously, there’s nothing that this guy can’t make/fix/do.
- Being well, appreciating the gift of an able-body (working out is a gift, not a chore!), and having a job that I genuinely enjoy! (<— Not little things, but they are things that make me happy every day!)
Let’s chat – Tell me a “little thing” that makes YOUR life great!

Your hair looks SO CUTE! I love it. Also, Ethiopian food = heaven.
Thanks, Gabby!! Have you been to Addis?!
I haven’t! I’ve been to Nile, which is also really good. I’ve heard great things about Addis – definitely going to go there soon!
Your haircut is beyond fabulous. It almost makes me want to chop a foot of hair off and go short and chic for the summer!
Thanks, lady!! I’m such a pusher with short hair – I think everyone should do it! DO IT!
Love your new cut! As a fellow post-haircut-cryer, I know it’s a big deal to not leave in tears, but to leave actually LIKING it is an amazing bonus
Oh, I’m so glad I’m not the only haircut cryer!! My hair grows SO SLOWLY (and I’m super vain, I guess) so I always make it out to be some traumatic life event, but Cory and my mom are like “Lock it up.” Haha!
Love your hair
I guess my little thing to be happy about is that while I am on bed rest the weather has been crappy and rainy so it makes me feel like I should want to be in bed and laying on the couch anyway
What a perfect time to be on bed rest! Seriously, this weather is SO DEPRESSING! I don’t want to get out of my pajamas. Ever.
The new cut looks great! No points will be held against you for the selfie either…this time!
Ha, thanks, Katie! My mom was asking for a picture – I couldn’t say no! Then I went to put it up on the blog and realized I’m a douche bag. It’s okay – it happens every now and then
Love the haircut! Looks super cute. And I loveee Ethiopian food too. I used to live right across the street from a place and had to try it out with friends. I’ve had it twice since then, it’s so unique and delicious!
Super cute hair cut! What makes my life great? A warm apartment on cold nights, my health, friends who like to watch IU basketball games, and much more!
LOVE LOVE the hair! so grown up and chic. and the selfie.
Thank you!
My older sister can usually never get off work, but she was able to take a trip with me to California this week. It made me feel blessed for having a sister!
The hair cut is SO cute! I love it.
I had such a great weekend away with my boyfriend this past weekend. Just spending time with him and falling all over again by repeating one of our first dates was wonderful.
How in the world did you sacrifice coffee like that? I’m trying my hardest to cut caffeine intake and it will be the bane of my existence!
That is such a cute date idea!! I sacrificed coffee like that because my doctor told me I had to. He scared me into cutting it out cold turkey, so it wasn’t so bad! Every now and then I get cravings, but I’m really only a coffee drinker for the taste, not the caffeine. Just go slowly, you can do it!
LOVE your haircut. It really suits your face.
My favorite little thing is watching The West Wing with my husband…it’s “our thing” and I love it!
Thanks, Parita!! I love that you guys have a TV show you watch together. Cory and I can’t agree on ANY TV shows! Not one!
Love the hair!! And your nail color…what is it? I feel so old when I realize that I get excited about things like garage door openers, and in my case, new shelves and shoe organizers.
It’s Non-Stop Stone by Cover Girl! I know, when I get so excited about household items I always step back and think, “What’s happened to me?!”
Colleen, your hair looks so good! I love the new ‘do!
Thanks, Laura!!
LOVE your cut girl. It looks GREAT!
Oh wow that Ethiopian food looks SO good and sounds awesome that it was so authentic with the no cutlery thing. I definitely need to find myself a restaurant! And your hair looks lovely
I’ve never eaten Ethiopian? Weird. Super cute haircut and I love the selfie
Little things that make me happy include: My children signing popular songs from the 80′s, and random screams of ‘I love you tooo Mommy”
