Where in the World is Colleen SanDiego?

- Cory and I have been in Charleston, South Carolina since Tuesday. (If you follow me on Twitter, you probably already know that, but it’s so weird not mentioning it on the blog!) We’re here to celebrate the wedding of my best/oldest/pseduo-sister friend, Lindsay on Saturday!!

She’s a gem.

- Working “remotely” is super challenging. Kudos to those of you who work at home and consistently get shit done. Being in a hotel room is slightly easier than being at home, but it’s so difficult to focus when I’m alone and in yoga pants. Does that make sense? Thank GOD I’m working on interesting stuff, or all would be lost.

– Since we’re here early for the wedding celebrations (Cory + I are both working during the day) I’m trying not to throw my normal habits out the window just yet…

– …But that’s hard as hell to do when the hotel’s “fitness center” consists of an ancient stationary bike and an elliptical on it’s last leg. Where are the weights, people?! A huge thanks to Erica for suggesting yesterday’s in-room workout. It kicked.my.ass.

Click here for the work out. If you dare.

- I’m the worst co-pilot. I’m like an infant in the fact that I fall asleep after 30 minutes in the car. Cory thinks it’s HILARIOUS to document this every time it happens.

– I’m still looking for hairspiration pictures for Saturday’s wedding. Thus far, My Google image searches (short hair up do) have not yielded the best results.

If you’ve had short hair in any sort of “up-do” please email me a picture (lunchboxdiaries[at]gmail[dot]com). I’ll be forever grateful.

– Today is my Friday! No work and all play is on the books for tomorrow :) Have a great day, my friends!

Let’s chat – Where is the last place you traveled?

So Very Married

My wedding was the biggest, happiest most exciting day of my life.

I was finally marrying the man who started making my life complete almost five years ago. It meant that I had snatched up the person who would be by my side forever.

It also meant that he and I were the center of attention for about a year of our lives. Neither of us are attention hogs, but at times it was nice. There was always something to talk about, something to plan, something to look at.

As much I feel silly admitting it – being The Bride became a very real part of my identity.

How could it not? It was such a big, exciting, life-changing role that I was taking on. It was no longer ever going to be “me” – it was going to be “us.” An idea that made (and still makes) my heart smile.

When all was said and done, the dancing was over and the guests had gone home – it really was just us. No phone calls to ask about the seating chart, no excited texts from my bridesmaids, no more cupcake meetings. It was just us.

Both of us, at different times, had an oddly sad moment of “Wow – it’s really over.” The day you’ve dreamt about and planned for for over a year was over in done in a matter of hours. That life milestone had come and gone.

I hear this is a normal feeling to experience for a newlywed couple. And then I thought “Well of course we feel this way! We were at the top of the top, it’s only natural to feel a decline of sorts when you’re headed back down to put your feet on the ground.” And that helped the “sad” feeling make sense.

That moment of sadness lasted briefly. Then we realized “Wow – we made it through that huge production! Now we get to be normal and just be married!!”

And oh, we’re so very married :)

I have a confession to make.

Blogging (writing mine and reading my friends’) has been a little tough to keep up with lately.

You know, I had the whole wedding thing.

And then the whole honeymoon trip.

And then the task of finally unpacking all of our wedding presents that have been sent to us over the last month and a half. We didn’t use any wedding presents until we were married, so there are lots of boxes consuming my life right now.

*All of these are great things that are more important than blogging, duh.*

It’s been difficult to remember to stop and take pictures of my food, and when I finally plop down on the couch at the end of the day, what am I supposed to capture with my camera? The insane trashy train-wreck that is The Bachelor Pad? (Seriously. Vienna is such a train wreck.)

Get this – some of my cousins came over for dinner last night, and I didn’t snap one photo. And they’re really beautiful, so it’s a shame.

I did manage to document dessert after they left though.

Does that count for something?

Anyway, if I can share some nuggets of information with you, it would this week’s strength workout.

Complete three sets of each:

Squats (25 reps, 10 lb dumbbell in each hand)

Calf Raises (50 reps, 10 lb dumbbell in each hand)

Lat Pull Down (12 reps, 40 lbs)

Upright Rows (15, 13, 12 reps, 15 lb dumbbell in each hand)

Lat Raises (15 reps, 5 lb dumbbell in each hand)

Sumo squats (25 reps, 10 lb in each hand)

Hammer curls (15 reps, 15 lbs)

Back extensions (10 lb total)

I really enjoy working with weights. I wish I liked cardio just as much, but that’s not how this cookie crumbles.

Let’s chat -

If you could only do one type of workout for the rest of your life, what would it be?

How early is too early to have a cupcake?

Three Words Can Justify This

Every weekday morning I set my alarm somewhere in between 5:15 and 5:30. And every weekday morning I curse my alarm and the still-dark sky outside my window.

Why then, on my first day of my “marriage vacation” did I wake up naturally at 5:32?

It wasn’t like “Oh, gee, it’s 5:32 – I still have a few hours to sleep. Yippe!”

Rather, it was “Wow, I’m so awake and alert. It must be at least 8:00.” And then I checked my phone. “Shit.”

I thought about going for a run. I promise that’s the truth. But you know what? I didn’t feel like it. And do you know what three words justified my unwillingness to sweat?

I’m the bride.

God, that feels good.

So now my mom and I are making lists of lists and checking them five hundred times twice. We’re leaving for Richmond this morning (!!!), and we’ve got to be damn sure that we have everything.

[I’m being dramatic. My grandma is the designated “shit we forgot” picker-upper ;)]

So my friends, it’s getting real. I’ll see you in Richmond!

Wedding Week Begins!

It’s Wedding Week!!!

Am I obnoxious enough for you?

Including today, we have five more “good nights” until I wake up on THE day. All of the big tasks are complete. All of the big purchases have been made. All of the big questions have been answered.

Now we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty.

As my mother says, it’s ‘crunch time.’

Our last hoorah before our wedding week officially began was to celebrate the marriage of two very close friends of ours, Stephanie and Stephen. Stephanie and I are sorority sisters and Cory and Stephen are fraternity brothers, which equaled a lot of time spent together in college :)

The wedding took place at a gorgeous venue in Fredericksburg, VA. Stephanie made for a breathtaking bride and I am so mad at myself for not getting a picture of her! I was too busy gawking at her, I guess.

After the ceremony, we mingled during the cocktail hour with our friends. I was torn between bee-lining it for the bar and the food – but my thirst outweighed my hunger (if you can imagine that.) Thankfully, both basic needs were met within minutes of each other ;)

Please trust me when I tell you that my plate was filled with bread and cheese cubes before I said “Oooh, Cory, take a picture for the blog!”

Up next? More food! Dinner was phenomenal. We started with a scrumptious salad followed by a surf ‘n turf plate for the entrée. The crab cake, mashed potatoes and veggies were to die foorrr.

It should be no surprise to you that my favorite, most anticipated, part of the meal was the dessert. I had a slice of cake and a cupcake. Judge me. I dare you.

‘Ooh, Cory, take a picture for the blog!’ Part Two

I love weddings because they are pure celebration of love, but I also love weddings because they’re a good reason to throw big parties. Now that we don’t live on campus anymore, I love any chance that I get to spend with my beautiful friends :)

It was a fun, exciting evening and I’m so happy that Cory and I got to be apart of it. Cory and I both wish Stephen and Stephanie a lifetime full of love and laughter!

Let’s chat – Cakes and cupcakes: Yay or nay? I had more than one person this weekend tell me “I don’t like cake.” Whaaat?!  In my world, that’s like saying “I don’t like to breathe much.”

Upside Down Oats

How do you screw up something as easy as overnight oats? I don’t know what happened, all I know is that I was so looking forward to some cold oats after my workout this morning.

Thanks to Spring Break, I was able to wake up without an alarm :) I made my way over to the gym and did hill intervals on the treadmill for 25 minutes and ended with 15 minutes of strength and stretching. I really, really wish I liked running. I try so hard. I just do not get any sort of enjoyment out of it. But I do it because I know it’s good for me.

So I got back to the apartment, registered for my summer class, and went to the fridge to pull out my beloved overnight oats. They looked normal, but when I went to stir them up…things weren’t so normal.

Yes, these are my upside down overnight oats. How the hell did this happen? Hmph.

I was borderline hangry, so I fixed up a nice bowl of cereal and enjoyed it almost as much.

Oatmeal squares, Honey Nut Cheerios, a couple Mini Wheaties, half a banana and some mixed nuts. It hit the spot, even if I was a little pouty about it ;)

I’ve got to go get ready for the day! I can’t believe it’s almost 10:00 and I’m not showered (TMI?) I’m meeting up with my mom this afternoon to go shopping for her dress for the wedding. It’s been tough – it seems like all the MOB dresses out there are a little too mom-ish if that makes any sense. All my mom keeps saying is “I’m NOT wearing a bolero jacket!” :)

Enjoy your day, friends! I’ll catch ya a little later today!

Let’s chat – What’s the last food fail you had? Do you like running? (give me some tips to trick myself into enjoying it!!) Do you like shopping? I could do it all day, but my mom isn’t so crazy about it.

Food Tasting {Part 2} + Fro-yo

How is everyone doing?! Did Daylight’s Savings throw anyone off today? I was lucky enough to not have anything to wake up for, so it didn’t mean much to me this morning :) When I saw that it was 58 degrees outside I hopped out of bed and did the two mile loop around the lake in Cory’s parent’s neighborhood. It’s no marathon run, but it felt good to be outside.

Yesterday was full of more wedding planning. I guess you could say I was pretty excited about it (and the fact that it was warm enough to bear my pasty legs for the first time in months)

We went to the country club where our wedding reception is going to be held. I had to laugh when I realized we were spending time seriously debating between white vs ivory tablecloths. This is my life.

Once we were able to make a choice between the drastically different table cloth colors it was on to the main courses :)

Someone from the club was sitting with us as we ate (slightly awkward) so I was only able to snap a picture of the salmon. Ohmygawd. It was so delicious.

Cory had chicken stuffed with feta and spinach with a roasted red pepper sauce that was also divive, and we switched half way through :)

Later in the afternoon we headed out to my favorite fro-yo place, Sweet Frog. I’m usually a vanilla + my weight in rainbow sprinkles type girl, but my blogger BFF, Rachel told me to add in some PB flavor and I’m SO glad she did :)

I went to town with my fro-yo. Peanut butter, vanilla and cake batter flavors topped with rainbow sprinkles, almonds, white chocolate chips, and a few Oreo pieces :) Fro-yo has absolutely become my favorite treat. I may be obsessed.

We’re getting ready to head back home in a little bit, so I will catch up with you later! Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!

Let’s chat – What was the best thing you ate this weekend? What you’re favorite fro-yo flavor + toppings? Is the weather finally getting nice where you are?

A Wedding Planning Weekend

It’s Friiiiidayy!! This is the first weekend in three weeks that I don’t have any time commitments on Saturday, so I’m excited for whole whole weekend.

Last two weekends in February = class 9:00 – 4:30

Last Saturday = Volunteer training 9:00 – 5:00

This weekend = I’m headed outta town!!

This girl = SUPER excited! :D

Cory and I are leaving in a few hours to head to Richmond for the weekend to cross some major items off of our Wedding To-Do List!

I can’t wait to share our agenda with you – but that will have to wait until tomorrow :)

I had a little dilemma packing for my weekend. It’s nearing the end of the cold winter, and as I looked into my closet I found myself thinking “I have nothing to wear.” I feel like I’ve over-worn every piece of cold weather apparel that I own. I’m in such limbo because it’s not hot enough for Spring clothes, but I feel like it’s too warm for turtlenecks and scarves. Does that make any sense? (I’m all about lame cartoons today. I like it.)

Well, I managed to pull some outfits together, but I’m not happy about them. Nothing can put a damper on my self-confidence like feeling uncomfortable in an outfit. Again I ask, does that make sense?

Regardless, I am so excited to get to Richmond to see Cory’s family and plow through some wedding things! I promise to take as many pictures as I can :)

I know this weekend is going to be filled with good eats, so I wanted to workout before we left. I ran 2 miles on the treadmill (with hills and speed intervals) and ran a little over a mile outside. I also did about 15 minutes of strength training.

Following my sweat session, breakfast was – brace yourself – not cereal OR oatmeal. Have I gone mad?! No, friends. I was just craving an omelette and toast. Gotta love a made-to-order dining hall breakfast :)

I enjoyed an egg white omelette stuffed with broccoli, green peppers, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms + a piece and a half of rye toast (my favorite).

Well, I’ve got a few more things to do before I can get on the road. Enjoy your Friday, my friends! I’ll catch up with you soon!

Let’s chat – Married (or engaged) ladies, what was your favorite part about wedding planning? What plans do you have this weekend? What’s your favorite strength training move?

Oh, What a Night

Our Richmond visit was a success! It was a rainy, yucky day but that didn’t stop us from shopping for bridesmaid’s dresses, going out to lunch and having a night out on the town :)

We ate lunch at one of my favorite places in Richmond – Cafe Caturra.

It’s like a fancy Panera, and I love it. I had half a of a curry chicken sandwich -homemade chicken salad with a delicate blend of curry spices, hearty walnuts & sweet honey served with fresh cut romaine & roma tomatoes on wheat toast, with a raspberry and walnut salad on the side.  YUM :)

After lunch we went to try on bridesmaid’s dresses :D The girls were great sports and tried on several different styles

The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging around. Emily popped in a movie and I may or may not have taken a nap ;)

When I finished “resting my eyes” Emily was already in the kitchen cooking up some delicious chicken for our dinner: soft chicken tacos. I’ve never met anyone who loves Mexican food more than the three of us. It’s definitely a concern. We usually frequent local Mexican restaurants, but Emily had the bright idea to cook at home, as to make our dining experience healthier. Let’s just say – she didn’t disappoint! :)

My apologies for the poor picture quality. It was slightly dark, and I was too hungry to worry about fixing it before snapping the picture ;)

Well friends, after dinner we went out and had a fabulous time!

The night started off with us figuring out the self-timer. Don’t you love Emily’s green wall?!

One highlight of the evening? Jamie’s parents coming out and having a drink with us! They are so fabulous!

After a while, things started to get a little – how do should I say? – silly. Remember that mantra I mentioned about moderation?

Yeah. Those shouldn’t have happened.

As a result, I’m moving a little slow today. A workout isn’t physically possible on the schedule for today. Sorry I’m not sorry ;)

Oh, yeah. The Super Bowl is today. Cory and I are going to a party :) He’s going because he wants to watch football. I’m going because I want to eat snacks for 4 hours. Sweet deal, friends. Sweet deal.

Question(s) for the day – 1. Who are you rooting for today: The Packers, The Steelers, or Buffalo Chicken Dip? 2. If you have any hang over remedies, I wouldn’t hate it if you shared them with me ;)

I’m SO Excited!

..And I just can’t hide it! Wooahh! Woooahh! :D

Even though I had to set an alarm in order to fit in a workout this morning, it’s all worth it, my friends. Why? I get to spend the whole day with two of my favorite people ever! One of them you already know – my BFF, Jamie. The other one is my Big (it’s a sorority thing) and one of my closest friends, Emily! Look at those mugs, how could I not love them? ;)

Both girls are in my wedding and the three of us are going out this afternoon so they can try on bridesmaids dresses! I just squealed with delight. Not like a pig, like an excited girl :D

I’m assuming that many pictures of silliness, food and consumption of adult beverages will ensue – I’ll make sure most of them are appropriate and able to be posted as documentation of our weekend ;)

This morning’s workout was great! I did a little over two miles on the treadmill, and I was proud that I kept a 6.3 pace the whole time, even with hills. Trust me, 6.3 on the treadmill is usually a chore – I like to hang around 6.0 most of the time ;) After my run, I did this amazing circuit that I found on Gina’s blog. She has set up a winter shape up program and it looks as though I’m a week behind –  but I did the intermediate/advanced circuit for week one. Check it out!

Breakfast was cereal with a banana. Shocking, I know. Do you have one meal out of the day that’s a “staple” meal? I mean, I love cereal. It makes me happy. I don’t think I’ll ever stop eating cereal :)

Well, Jamie will be here soon, so I need to go get ready! I hope you have a marvelous Saturday!

Oh, this is something my friend Lindsay showed me and it’s I think it’s just too funny not to share with you. It’s a little weird, but it makes me laugh every time. Let me know if you giggled a little, too :)
