Hello from Baltimore!

I’m spending some time in Baltimore this week for a work conference and I’m super thrilled! How fun is it to be excited about work? :)

Today, I’ve had the pleasure of attending a Blogging Bootcamp presented by Michael Klaybor and Marina London – two social media gurus who are “early adopters” of social media in relation to the fields of mental health and employee assistance.

I’m so interested in today’s session because I’m learning about how to utilize blogging and Twitter from a professional standpoint – you know, like, for an employer.

There’s a great deal of strategizing and planning that go into Tweeting and blogging for a company (i.e. not what I do) and I’m soaking it all up like a social media sponge.

We’ve finished the blogging portion and now we’re on to Twitter! I’ll catch you guys later!

Totally Truthful Thursday

  • I haven’t worked out this week  due to my oh-so-tragic injury and I’m becoming fidgety and self-conscious *cue violins*
  • My least favorite hashtag in the entire Twitter universe? #foodporn 

  • I’m ready to say see ya, summer. I don’t live near the beach and I’m pasty year-round, so I welcome jeans and scarfs and boots with open arms!
  • I am sad that the Giants lost. No, not because I’m a fan of the Giants (or football in general) but because now that it’s football season, Cory’s mood is strongly correlated to the outcome of  of each NYG game.

  • Sometimes, if Campbell does his biznass and we’re the only witnesses, I retain my dignity and don’t pick up.

  • I feel badly for people who spend their time shit talking on GOMI. Really? You’re going to criticize people who put themselves out there, while you hide anonymously behind your keyboard and WizardLvr420 screen name? I think that’s sad.
  • I’m one of the 1.5 million people who bought the $10 for $5 Starbucks Living Social deal. Are you?

  • I’m currently completing my internship for grad school. That means that I’m counseling people. That blows my freakin’ mind, man.
  • If I’m ever in a funky mood, the surefire way to make myself smile is to look through pictures of our wedding day. We experienced a day full of such love and happiness, and I can’t help but smile while looking back on the best day of my life.

  • I have a serious question – when is it appropriate to start decorating for/celebrating fall? I’ve had one PSL, which was glorious, and I’m anxiously awaiting our third annual CornMazing adventure.

Look for the Good

The other day, I was scrolling through my newsfeed and was struck by the overwhelming negativity of so many status updates.

I fucking hate traffic. My life life sucks. 

I’m going to jump off a bridge if I don’t get an A on this biology paper. I’m a fucking seniorrrr. 

Worst. day. everrrr. I got a parking ticket and the line at Starbucks was out the door. 

It went on and on. And Twitter isn’t safe from the nagging, negative tweets either. I agree that we all have bad days and are completely entitled to our own emotions  – but really? People just bitch and moan via social media about insignificant things, and I don’t like it.

I wanted to read something different, so I asked for it.

And just like that, comments started popping up. 

And more…

And more still..

Reading every comment made me genuinely happy. From being with someone battling an illness to something as wonderfully simple as eating a delicious pastry: It was all positive.

Life is good, my friends. Don’t take it for granted. Yes, there will always be negative things and people in the world that can bog you down. But I promise you, that if you look for the good in life – you’ll find it.

Let’s keep it going – Tell me something good or happy that’s happened in your life today. I woke up without an alarm and then enjoyed a nice cup of coffee in my PJs. I have nowhere to be today, and that is wonderful! 

Candid Thoughts During Spin Class

Spinning is certainly one of my go-to classes when I need a masochistic ass-kicking. I like spin class because it’s an intense cardio workout that is void of running and it leaves me feeling totally accomplished.

This morning, Emily met me bright and early – and I mean early – for her first spin class ever.

I know I Tweet about loving spin. I fitfluential hashtag the shit out of it, too. But during the class, it’s nothing Tweet home about.

My Not-So-Tweet-Worthy Thoughts During Spin Class

My ass hurts. Class hasn’t even started yet. 

Oh, God. My vag hurts, too. Who the hell designed these bike seats!? 

Yes! I love this song! …4 minutes and 30 seconds later… I HATE THIS SONG!

How are her legs moving so fast?! 

If I passed out, I’d have an excuse to stop this. 


But all those thoughts disappear when the instructor congratulates the class and tells us to cool down. God, I love a well-earned cool down. And my shaky legs as I walk to my car.

You win, Spin Bike. You always do. That’s why I come up here.

Aggressive following and tweeting?

Twitter, I follow 291 people and yesterday I tweeted 10 times in a 24-hour time period.

It’s probably a glitch in the system, as I am still able to access my account, but the email did make me think about Twitter etiquette.



My Top 5 Twitter Etiquette Rules

Love Yourself (But Not Too Much) When all of your Tweets are promoting you and your latest blog post, product, etc – people stop paying attention to you. Take a few Tweets a day to promote your post, but leave it there. If people want to read your blog, they’ll will.

Common Sense is Not Common… And there is tons of proof of that statement on Twitter. So you ate a bad piece of chicken and now you’ve got the runs – I’m sorry for you, but I don’t want to know about it.

#Stop #With #The #Overuse #of #Hashtags You see my point, right?

Private Conversations Should be private It’s great to Tweet back and forth with a friend a few times, but when your Tweets turn into full-blown 140 character conversations – it’s time to either pick up the phone, write an email, or send a text.

Living in Twitter Land When I see Tweets from people like “Right now I’m having the most romantic dinner EVER!” or “Loving spending time with my family.” I stop and think why are you tweeting about that? I guess that’s more real life etiquette. Live in the moment – not on Twitter.*

*I’m not talking about random life stuff like, “Headed to Vegas with the girls!” – just things that require you to be in the moment with people you love.

Hello there! I’ve got a very busy morning of running 5 miles before spending the day helping out at my family’s annual charity golf tournament.

On days like this, if I haven’t pre-written most of my post, it just ain’t gonna happen (my fingers are twitching from just typing that ‘a’ word.)

So I thought instead of leaving you with nothing, I’d send you over to the blogs that I read religiously. Now believe you me, I read a lot of blogs. Yours is probably one of them. But during the week, there are only a handful that I can read due to the horrible time constraints that come with having a job and going to graduate school full time.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! :D

Alyssa makes my mornings go by quicker with gchat, and I read her blog because I think it’s a no-brainer that we’d hang out if she would just hurry up and move lived in Northern VA. She’s hilarious and she runs like a maniac, but she loves food and alcohol just as much as I do ;)

Chelsey is hilarious. I don’t read her blog for her stellar recipes (but my God, I love looking at her pictures) and I don’t read her blog for her awesome GF tips. I read her blog because (surprise, surprise) I believe we’re blogger soul sistas. When I read her posts, I think “was she reading my diary?”

Courtney’s blog was the first that I had ever come across. I didn’t know what a blog was until I read Courtney’s. And the only reason I kept reading it was because I could relate to her everyday life. Maybe you have caught on to my apparent theme – I read blogs of women who I’d like to hang out with over drinks or frozen yogurt. Courtney’s one of those bloggers :)

Oh my goshhh. There isn’t one thing I don’t love about Clare and her blog. I’m pretty sure we started blogging around the same time, and it’s been really fun to see how we’ve grown as bloggers in a pretty short amount of time. I was so bummed when I realized Clare was going to HLS and I wasn’t there to meet her. Wah!

I love reading Julie’s blog because she is so consistent. I know what to generally expect from her three daily posts, and I love that. I look forward to her Blog Talk Tuesdays and new workouts that she posts. But most of all, I love that she’s a newlywed and has her own little family like mine. Big surprise! I can relate to her!

And as always, I’m constantly checking Twitter.

Mid Week Needs a New Name

I’ve never used (or enjoyed) the term Hump Day.


It just makes me think of sweaty people…humping. I don’t like it. Why can’t we call it Over the Hill Day? Or I Can See The Weekend Day? I know they don’t have as much of a “ring” to them – but really. Sweaty people humping is not how I want to envision my Wednesday.

I digress.

It’s midweek. I finally feel like I can see the wedding on the horizon. Once I get through this week (the work week ends tomorrow) I feel like I can finally be in Wedding Week mode.

And then I promise I’ll try to stop bringing it up all the time. My apologies if you’re tired of reading about it.

Actually, I’m not sorry. I’m really excited :D

But it’s not the wedding day yet, so this morning I got up and went to the gym and completed the same circuit workout from Sunday.

The important part about this story is not the workout. Have you ever heard the phrase Two’s company, but three’s a crowd?

That was the gym this morning. At 5:45 is was me, Sweaty Shirtless Asian Man (SSAM) and our newest club member, Hock-a-loogie. This dude was such a bro. He was rapping along with his music and counting his reps out loud – but in a way that was breathless and made it seem like he was working harder than he really was.

I was slightly annoyed, but I could deal.

But then the loogies started. (I’m gagging as I type this.)

Every time he finished a set, he would go hock a loogie in the trash can. And then burp out loud.

I can’t make this stuff up, people.

I was giving him the hard core stink eye that clearly said “You’re a gross bro with your backwards hat and muscle shirt. Go blow your nose in the men’s bathroom.”

I even tweeted my aggravation. Because that’s what people do when they can’t put on their big girl pants and confront someone.

I was so glad when I got home and was able to enjoy a fantastic bowl of overnight oats. This bowl seemed never ending, really. I felt like I was in breakfast heaven with all the Swanson chia seeds, PB, chocolate Love Grown granola and banana.

Are we still friends even though I didn’t take a picture?

But let’s be serious, nothing can replace my love for my breakfast favorite ;)

Taking the Highroad

I’m having a tough time with today’s post. If you follow me on Twitter and notice my tweets, you may have caught on to the fact that yesterday I was a little…perturbed.

I have something that needs to be written about, but I think it belongs in my private journal and not the blogosphere.

I’m very careful about what I post on the internet. I always ask myself “Would I be willing to sign this and have it published on the front page of the Washington Post?” If it’s not an overwhelming “YES” then I keep it off the blog/Facebook/Twitter.

I really try to take the highroad in life. Trust me, there are things that piss me off, but I often wonder if it’s worth lowering my standards and getting catty.

Note: Let’s be clear – the “highroad” theory does not apply when I’m venting in my living room with Cory or leaving a “You won’t f-ing believe this” voicemail on Jamie’s phone.

Just wanted to clarify that :)

With the helpful suggestions from some blog friends, I’ve decided to keep my rage-filled post in the drafts folder and turn to my own personal journal.

I guess I just wanted to share that dumb bitches really annoy me :)


I got myself out of bed early for the second day in a row. Small victories, friends. Sometimes when I get out of my workout/early morning routine, it is such a struggle to get back into the swing of things. But I’m getting there!

At the gym I ran through a strength workout twice. It was a hodge-podge of sorts and I didn’t count reps today – I just did the max reps. It was kind of nice not having to count!

  • Push ups – “real” ones!
  • Lat raise
  • Tricep dip
  • Ballet squat
  • Jump squats
  • Seated rows
  • Hammer curls
  • Back extensions
  • Lat pull down machine

I have two workout related questions for you –

Question one – Is this appropriate?

This guy is working out (and laying down on equipment!) without a shirt on! Blahhh!! It grossed me out. This is the second time I’ve seen this guy in the gym sans shirt. Gross.

Question two – Is anyone a member at LA Boxing? There are two near me, and I’m really considering trying it out. I’d love to know what you think if you’re a member there!

    Healthy Lunch (+Updates!)

    Good afternoon, beauties! How’s everyone’s Monday shaping up to be? I’ve had a pretty productive day thus far, so I can’t complain ;)

    I kept to my word and had a refreshingly healthy and tasty lunch.

    I whipped up a whole wheat wrap filled with red pepper hummus, turkey, spinach, swiss cheese, tomato and mushrooms with a Fuji on the side. It hit the spot!

    Update One: The J-O-B

    Some of you know that a little over a week ago I interviewed for a new job and was lucky enough to be hired several days later.  I am so thrilled for this opportunity because it is right up my ally with what I want to do after I earn my Master’s.

    I have the opportunity to work with male inmates and teach them about how their crimes have impacted their victims and the community and how they can restore the harm they have caused. It’s going to be such a rewarding and challenging opportunity, and I’m looking forward to it!

    Update Two: I’m on Facebook!

    Yep, The Lunchbox Diaries is now on Facebook!

    I wanted to get a good handle on learning how to manage Twitter (I had never used it!) before setting up my Facebook page – so now that I know what ‘RT’, ‘@Mentions’ and ‘@’ mean, The Lunchbox Diaries is ready for yet another social media site :)

    I know how busy you all are, but I’d really appreciate if you “liked” my page :)

    (Semi) Update Three: Subscriptions

    After I switched to a self-hosted blog, I lost all of my dearly loved subscribers! Many of you let me know that the RSS feed wasn’t working for you, so Julie helped me set up an e-mail subscription – just like the old blog! ;)

    Spinach & Provolone Stuffed Chicken

    It’s Tuesday night which means it’s GLEE night! If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen my mistake last night.

    Cory and I were out running errands but I knew I had to be home by 8:00 – I mean, Glee is doing original songs on this episode! You can only imagine my panic when I sat down in front of the TV ready to get my Glee on and was met with an episode of House. WTF?! Where is Glee?!

    I tweeted in desperation.

    Two minutes later, I realized I was a day off. Wow, I’m embarrassing. Good thing I have reliable blog friends to set me straight.

    Well, now I’m on the right day and I can celebrate it being my favorite night of television. I’m a little weary of original songs – but I have faith ;) What do you think?

    So tonight was the second night that Cory and I made dinner. We’re still using the chicken we bought – that stuff goes a long way! I thought it was appropriate for day 17 of the 30DPCa picture of your favorite meal. We all know Mexican is my all time favorite, but I love chicken. You can do so much with it!

    We butterflied two chicken breasts and stuffed them to our liking. Mine was stuffed with spinach, a sliver of salami and a slice of provolone. Cory’s was stuffed with salami and provolone.

    All you vegetarians out there – turn away! Raw chicken is kind of gross to look at, huh?

    Cory made a red pepper sauce to go on top. He put roasted red peppers, cherry peppers, pepper, cilantro and olive oil in the food processor. It was pretty hot so we added in a few dollops of plain Chobani. It looks like a mini fiesta, doesn’t it?

    While we waited for our chicken to cook (we cooked it at 375 for one hour) we had a little bruschetta as an appetizer. It took us back to Italy ;)

    Before we knew it, it was time to eat! The chicken + the red pepper sauce was on point, as were our steamed veggies on the side

    After dinner? I made my own nut butter! I had some mixed nuts on my hands, and I wanted to give it a shot. It worked! And I think it’s actually better than regular PB (gasp!)

    Yum. Yum. Yum! I can’t wait to try it on oats!
