Today, Cory and I tried something new and took a yoga class together.

I hyped up this upcoming experience like nobody’s business because yoga at my old gym was totally perfect.

Cory, you’ll feel so relaxed and centered.


Cory, the couple that namastes together, STAYS together. 

Cory. Get ready for your life to be changed. Forever. 

At this point Cory looked through the windows to my soul and told me to namastopit.

So, 5:30 AM came and I was ready and excited to calm the hell down and find my center.

Unfortunately, the instructor was a snobby substitute for the normal instructor. I was hoping for a nice Vinyasa flow, but she was more of a bougie show off than anything else. At one point, she asked the class “Do you guys do (insert random body-twisting pose here)?” And everyone shrugged, as best as the could while in bow pose.


She replied in a snarky tone, “It really helps if you learn the lingo.”

At this point, I look to Cory, who looks just as hilariously as uncomfortable as I do, and I laugh out loud.

It felt worse than laughing in church during Station of the Cross.

Needless to say, Cory hated it and my words currently hold no weight in this household. I’m hoping to redeem myself soon.

Evaluating Your Life Plate

We live in a society where the most popular New Year’s Resolution is weight loss. Many people are so concerned with what they put on their plates, that other important things tend to fall by the wayside.

But speaking of keeping your plates healthy, I wanted to focus on a different kind of plate: your Life Plate.

I think of Life as a huge buffet busting at the seams with wonderful people, places, opportunities, and choices.

And like at you’re favorite Chinese lunch buffet, you have a choice as to what you put on your Life Plate.

You can choose to fill your plate with things that make you immediately happy, but end up leaving you feeling empty and tired.

You can lose all willpower and fill your plate with facades and lose sight of who you really are.

You can also choose to fill your plate with shoulds (things you think you should do, be, say, etc.) that ultimately end up making you feel anxious and overwhelmed.

Or, you could think of your Life Plate as a balancedhealthy plate filled with people and things that fuel you and make you feel your best. (Always remembering to save room for dessert 😉 )

As 2012 comes to a close, I encourage you to take a look at your Life Plate. Is it full of junk, or is it full of things you need?

Like a huge serving of faith (whatever that looks like to you), a heaping helping of family and meaningful relationships, all heavily seasoned with compassion (for yourself and others), genuine relaxation, and FUN.

Think about it.

I’m Back!

Hello, friends! Oh my gosh, I can’t begin to express how I truly needed that break from blogging and not being fully “plugged in” to approximately 17 social media accounts at all times.

While I stepped away from the blog world, I was still fully existing and functioning in Real Life 😉 It’s amazing how much time I had to devote to other people and things when I took blogging off the to-do list.

– Cory and I made the trip up to Alexandria to spend Christmas Eve with my family. And I wasn’t overly concerned about snapping pictures for the blog. 

As a side note, my cousin Lindsay, who I adore, just chopped off all her hair and I couldn’t help but notice that we kind of sort of definitely look like sisters.

Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

– Cory and I hosted Christmas dinner at our new home! It was shockingly not stressful at all. While not everything went according to plan, I think we did a good job.


I even had extra time to dedicate to making the table cuter than I normally would have.

– I started a new hobby as a Stella & Dot stylist. I can’t tell you how much I love this jewelry. Seriously.


More on this later, but I have to gush about the fact that I’m able to work with ladies who want to host online shows. If you’re interested in hosting a jewelry show on your blog – email me!

– I’ve spent a lot of of down time here.

– I’ve spent time with my bestest friends, which is not something totally out of the ordinary, but I’ve been extra thankful and appreciative lately.

– And, because I dig honesty, I’ve also had a few struggles. We’re been beyond busy and I think I got to the point where I ran myself into the ground. More on that once we get into the New Year!

– Most importantly, I’ve indulged and not worried one single bit. Dessert? Sure! Sweet Frog twice in one week? Absolutely!

I know that I haven’t written a real post (unless you count this one) in almost two weeks, which is like, a year in the blog world. While I enjoyed every minute of my break, I’m ready and excited to be back. So, if you’re still here as a reader, I genuinely appreciate it.

I’ve Got Sunshine

Hey there, beautiful people! I hope your Wednesday is going swimmingly :)


This morning I woke up and headed to the gym for a strength workout with free weights. I adapted this workout from a class I took in college, so here’s what the circuit looked like

  • Lunges (30 x 2)
  • Squats (30 x 2)
  • Shoulder squeeze (15 lbs, 15 reps x 2)
  • Lawn mower (12.5 lbs, 15 reps x 2)
  • Bicep curl into shoulder press (10 lbs, 15 reps x 2)
  • In and out bicep curls (10 lbs, 16 reps x 2)
  • Lat and side raises (5 lbs, 15 reps x 2)
  • Tricep dips (body weight, 15 reps x 2)
  • “Bench press” (two 15 lbs, 15 reps x 2)

It left me sweating and my arms feeling like jell-o. I’ll chalk that up to a strength success :)


I came home and made myself a fabulous cereal combo that I downed in about 2 minutes 😉

Topic of Discussion – Summer Sun

Okay, so it’s that time of year when all of my favorite health magazines start printing articles about how being in the sun will 100%, without fail or doubt, give you sun cancer.

(Which is why it confuses me that many of their models are sun-bathing)

Mixed media messages. I’ll save that for another day…

They print articles about a happy, successful 20-somethings who had the world at her finger tips, but oops – she didn’t wear sunscreen… and she died of melanoma.

Upon reading said articles, my heart races and I enter full-fledged hypochondriac mode. I scour my body in the mirror searching for misshaped and/or discolored moles. Cory tells me I’m not allowed to read these things anymore 😉

But it worked once. I did in fact find a discolored, misshaped mole and it turned out to be pre-cancerous. Due to that, I hid from the sun last summer, but it was miserable.

Clearly, that effect has worn off this summer.

Due to my little scare, I now protect myself from the sun. I wear sunblock when I decide to lay out – a concept I did not implement the first 21 years of my life. I also limit my sun time now. If I’m going to lay by the pool, I smear on the sun screen and give myself 1 hour.

I know that’s more than the recommended 20 minutes, but hey. Sista’s got a wedding in two months. I will not be pasty.

I also invested in some Jergen’s Natural Glow lotion.

Because I already have some color, I apply it every other day and it helps me maintain a “glow” :)

Being scared from the sun is not fun. I love the feeling of laying by the pool or on the beach and soaking up the hot sun. Does the “everything in moderation” idea count towards sun as well?

Surprise Gym



While I don’t normally bare-ass it on Fridays, I do enjoy the more casual and laid back feel of the work day 😉


The gym that I normally go to on campus is closed for the summer, but little did I know that there is another equally large gym right around the corner.

Well, wouldya look at that…

This blows the mind of a girl who went to a tiny school with only one gym and only one dining hall. This morning I did intervals on the ArcTrainer for 30 minutes. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – with the right resistance, that baby can give me a good workout!


Today is the “sell by” date on my milk. That always makes me a little wary. I did the smell test. Not too abnormal. I did the shake test. No chunks (thank you, freshman year, for proving that happens). With all systems go – I made a hearty cereal combo 😀

Hey there, blog lovers! Hows your Tuesday going?! It’s a little doom and gloom outside this morning, but I’m trying my hardest to send the sun some good vibes so he comes out to play :)


This morning’s workout started off with a a great strength circuit and then 2.5 miles on the treadmill. I was really glad that I was able to fit weights and cardio into one workout. I haven’t had time in the morning to that for a while now!


It’s also been several days since I’ve had a bowl of cold oats, so that’s what I let my mind wander to while I was hurtin’ fo’ certain on the treadmill.

Sweet victory.

These are not overnight oats. They’re more like stuck-in-the-fridge-while-I-showered oats. Nonetheless, they tasted great!

Sweatin’ It

I’m a little preoccupied this morning because I have an interview in a few hours. I sweat peeling an orange, so you can imagine what a hot mess I am before an interview.

Like my nerves for anything, it’s the anticipation that kills me. Once I get in the room, I’m able to strut my stuff.

Okay, my friends! I need to spend some time going over the job description and potential questions before I hit the road. I need to convince this lady of how awesome I am 😉

Extra Chipper

GooOoOd morning, beautiful people! I’m feeling extra chipper this morning 😀

Maybe it’s because when I walked outside, I saw blue skies for the first time in seven days.

Or maybe it’s because I had a really intense run that left me feeling like I kicked my own ass.

Or maybe it’s because I had my free sample of Quaker Oatmeal Squares fo’ breakfast.

I love being a Clever Girl.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to get two little boxes of their favorite cereal in the mail?


Like I said, I had a really great run on the treadmill this morning.

Woah. Did my fingers really just type that sentence?

I did the 5-4-3-2-1 sequence twice through and it was tough, but I was proud that I pushed myself. Every time I get to that minute at 8.0, I pray to God that I a) don’t vomit and b) don’t fall. So far so good 😉

Weekend Plans

Cory and I are headed to Richmond this afternoon. We have a meeting at 7 AM tomorrow (say whaaa??) to go over liturgy and music for the wedding mass. Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to it.

I’m also going to Richmond for a good friend’s bachelorette party! I’m pretty excited. I’ve never been to one, but I’m highly confident that a good time will ensue 😉

I’m off to get some errands done! I’ll catch you guys later this afternoon!

Lunchtime Love (GIVE AWAY)

Good afternoon, gorgeous readers! After staring at an excel spreadsheet for three hours, I think it’s time to take a little break. What do I like to do on my breaks, you ask? Give things away to readers, of course! 😀

A few weeks ago one of my favorite companies in the whole world, Larabar, sent me some goodies in the mail!

I can’t lie, I was really excited to get a package from a company that’s such a big deal in my book.

I got a t-shirt, which unfortunately is so small! I put it on and sang fat guy in a little coat (Tommy Boy, anyone?), some stickers and two cute little Larabar snack packs 😀

We’ve got chocolate chip cookie dough, PB&J, tropical fruit tart, peanut butter chocolate chip and blueberry muffin. Friends, this is a whole work-week’s worth of Larabars. Let’s be honest, these puppies aren’t cheap – so this isn’t a bad deal 😉

My all time favorite flavor is chocolate chip cookie dough. I put one of those babies in the fridge and eat it for a nice cold dessert. Blueberry didn’t knock it out of the park for me, but the tropical fruit tart was a pleasantly tasty surprise. Seriously though, I don’t think you could go wrong with any flavor.

“Earning” the Weekend

Good morning, my friends! The weekend is so close – we can get through this long (and rainy) day, right?! 😉


It was just me and these babies today. These dumbbells are one of the best gifts I’ve ever received, because sometimes they’re all I need for a good workout – and I don’t have to leave my room!

Before I went to bed last night, I jotted down some strength-training moves that I wanted to knock out before heading to work – and man, they had me sweating!

  • W-press x15
  • Bicep curl to over head press x 15
  • Chair dips x 15
  • Regular Squats x 30
  • Pliet squats (with swinging a dumbbell, kind of the a kettle bell? I know no technical terms, clearly) x 30
  • Chest press x 15
  • Upright rows x 15
  • In and out bicep curls x15
  • Calf raise with tricep extension x 15
  • Plank – 40 seconds
  • 10 push-ups

I did all of these twice, and it took me about 20 minutes. It was quick, but I felt the burn!


My cereal bowl was so good yesterday that I had it again today!


I’ve mentioned before that Thursdays are my “marathon days” as I work from 8:30 – 4:00, then have class from 4:30 – 10:00. I think of it as “earning” my do-absolutlely-nothing kind of Fridays :) But on these days, I have to pack my food for the entire day.

Rice & veggies and a Granny Smith for lunch and a turkey sandwich and chips for dinner (I often re-use almond tins instead of using plastic baggies) I packed 2 Raw Crunch Bars as snacks :)

One more thing before I sign off. Some of you may recall that Jamie and I went to see the Justin Bieber movie a while back. Well, she posted this link on my wall this morning saying that we should have taken this little boy with us. Is he not so cute?! (You have to click through to YouTube to watch it. I don’t know why it won’t play straight to my blog. Anyway, Enjoy!)

I’d Hug Ya if I Could!

Hi, blog friends! A big thanks to all of you for your kind words about it being okay to vent from time to time. I’d hug each of ya if I could!

I know this blog my place to do whatever I want (that sounds bossy), but I don’t want to bore you fabulous readers with my mundane annoyances 😉

After work I spent some quality time at the gym. My fitness ADD was in full swing today. Proof:

  • 15 minutes on the stair master
  • 10 minutes hill/speed walking (incline 5.5, speed 3.6)
  • 15 minutes on the stair master again
  • 20 minutes on the elliptical

I tried to make my switches during the commercial breaks. Gotta love Law & Order marathons 😉

In the food arena, I’m try to make this week interesting: I’m not buying groceries this week.

No, this is not a crash diet 😉

I normally spend a good chunk of change on my weekly Sunday grocery trips. I don’t know about you, but money doesn’t grow on trees in my neighborhood – and after a fun week of spring break, I could afford to save a couple a dollar bills 😉

So my new “challenge” is to eat most of my meals at the dining hall (because a free meal plan is included with my assistantship) with the exception of dinner on class nights. The food at this dining hall is noteworthy as there are a wide variety of options – even an entire gluten-free station. But I’ve shied away from the dining hall this year because:

  1. I like to know exactly what I’m putting into my mouth
  2. Not being able to eat cereal whenever I want makes me slightly anxious
  3. Being unable to find a seat during the “meal rush” is mildly obnoxious.
  4. Let’s be serious – who doesn’t need to run to the bathroom after eating 90% of the food served in a college dining hall?

The real challenge is going to be not gaining 5 pounds. Self-control and planning have to be my top priorities. I mean, fries and soft serve available at every meal? That should be illegal 😉

I’ll do my best to frequent the salad bar

And try not to “sample” something from every station 😉
