Guys.
This weekend was so perfect.
Cory and I had no plans, and after traveling/having plans every weekend for the last two months, we soaked up the nothingness like it was our job.
Well, sort of.
On Friday we did do a little something – but it was local and it felt free because we bought the Groupon months ago. We headed over to Colonial Downs, a horse racing track, with Jamie and Emily.
We love Groupon because of the ideas it gives us for nights out with friends/date nights. I would have never said “Hey, let’s spend our Friday night betting on horse races” but when we saw the Groupon, we thought it sounded like a cool idea.
And it was.
People there were real serious about their bets. They picked their horses with the help of home-made binders full of important looking stats sheets, while we picked horses based on their funny names (ManChild was my favorite.)
Maybe that’s why other people won dolla dolla bills – and we won spare change…
We had a blast, and when it was all said and done, we were home and in bed by 11:00. And that, ladies and gents, is how I like to do things
Saturday was when we literally sat on the couch all day. We slept in (until 7:45) and took Campbell for an hour-long walk to prepare him for a day of lounging.
Cory and I were not going to let whiny, full-of-energy dog ruin our peaceful day of nothingness.
Our plan worked
Sunday, we slept in again (!!) and meandered over to this little hole-in-the wall for breakfast
Cory introduced me to Cracker Barrel for the first time when I was a freshman. That’s when I was still a little crazy, so I don’t think I ate much. But this time – I was ready. Um, maple syrup in airplane-like bottles? Yes please!
I hope you enjoyed your weekend, my friends! Have a great Monday!
Let’s chat:
- What did you think of the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics? I DVR’d it, so I think the ability to fast forward enhanced my viewing experience. It was definitely cool – but some parts I was like, “What’s going on right now?”
- Are you a Cracker Barrel fan?! I am now. The pancakes, eggs, and sourdough toast (+ blackberry jam) were all so delicious!

I looooooooooooove Cracker Barrel
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
These are the best kinds of weekends–laid back but still fun. This past weekend I was running from one thing to the next and by last night, I called it quits. Nothing like a book and a bowl of popcorn to savor the last few hours of the weekend on a Sunday night.
Aren’t low-key weekends the best? The date actually sounds really fun, even though I have a little bit of a “thing” about horse-racing and circuses, etc. Groupon is awesome for stuff like that.
Cracker Barrel is awesome! I wish there was one close by to me
Love weekends like that! Glad you two had a wonderful time together <3 Mmm Cracker Barrel. Love their breakfast & the couple games your able to play while waiting.
We looooove Cracker Barrel – it’s not a road trip until we stop there!
I had a free weekend too, and it was awesome. Sometimes those are the best!! Betting on the ponies is always a good time. I would have put my money on ManChild too. That poor horse. With a name like that, he’s screwed.
