Since I chopped off my hair, people have been more than complimentary. I love my short hair, and for the most part, other people do, too. It’s so funny though, because the most common comment I get is: “I want to cut my hair off BUT _____” (A close second is: “Can I TOUCH it?!”)
So, I’m here to dispel some pixie myths! You know, just in case you have the itch to cut it all off
Myth: Short hair will make my face look fat.
Myth: People will think I’m a lesbian.*
Reality: A lady has yet to hit on me!
Myth: Short hair will take away all girly, pretty, feminine things I have going for me.
Reality: I’ve never felt more feminine and pretty in my life.
Myth: I’m horrible with hair. I wouldn’t even know how to style it!
Reality: I’m horrible with hair, too. Like any haircut, bad hair days happen. (But with short hair, they just happen less often!)
Myth: Short hair is high maintenance.
Reality: Sort of true. While it does only take 2.5 minutes to dry and style, I do have to get it cut every 4 – 6 weeks. That said, I go to Hair Cuttery and it costs me $14.
So there you have it! A pixie cut is a HUGE leap to take, but it’s been the best “beauty risk” I’ve ever taken. Have you ever had a pixie cut? Thought about getting one?
*Please don’t think I’d be even remotely upset if someone thought I was a lesbian. Unfortunately, in our society, short hair is a stereotype for a lesbian woman, thus the thought had popped into my head; which is odd, because I’m a personal fan of some gorgeous lesbians (plus: here and here) who squash that stereotype!
