You know, I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. I think they’re junk. I do, on the other hand, love a good goal.
If you’ve been around these parts for a while, you know that my relationship with running has seen it’s ups and downs. When I started training for the half marathon, there were days that I wanted to shoot myself – but overall, I genuinely enjoyed running towards a goal.
(Pun absolutely intended.)
So 2012 is going to be a big running year for me. I’ve got big plans, a running buddy, and a pretty serious commitment on my hands.
In 2012, Cory and I are both going to run 1,006 miles. Get it? By the end of 2012, we’ll have run a combined 2,012 miles.
So romantic, I know.
When you break it down, 1,006 miles in 366 days (leap year!) equals about 3 miles a day. That doesn’t sound like that big of a deal, I know.
But there will be days that I’m busy, sick days, or vacation days when I don’t (gasp!) feel like working out.
Because some days, rummy bears are more important than running.
So I’ll be aiming to run 25 miles each week for the rest of the year. That will include some races that I have up my sleeve, but overall, it’s going to take a great deal of holding myself accountable and hitting the pavement on a very consistent basis.
Maybe by the end of the year I’ll feel like a real, true runner. Maybe.
Am I nervous? A little bit. Do I think I’ve lost my mind? Yes, but that’s nothing new. Do I think I can do this? Absolutely.
