As soon as I became pregnant, I was introduced to the world of motherhood where, in most situations, it’s only appropriate to talk about certain (read: happy, comfortable) things.
From being a mom-to-be who didn’t throughly enjoy pregnancy, to a brand new mom who experienced postpartum depression, to currently being a mom who is still trying to figure shit out, I find myself toeing the “taboo” mom line on a regular basis, never quite sure about what’s actually okay to talk about with other moms.
What I’ve discovered over these past 10-ish months is that I always walk from genuine, vulnerable conversations about motherhood, feeling better than I did before. Bonds have built, friendships made, and tough moments triumphed through these authentic conversations; which is why I wanted to start something like Taboo Mom Talk.
Every Tuesday in February, I’ll be hosting a weekly Blab session with my mom friends where we talk about the parts of motherhood that you don’t see on social media. AND I AM SO EXCITED!
It’ll be LIVE, unrehearsed, authentic (probably wine-filled) conversations between women who are simply trying to survive (and thrive!) this whole “motherhood thing.”
I’ll be hosting these conversations on Blab. Blab is a new-to-me platform that I think is incredibly awesome. It’s the neat combination of Periscope, YouTube, Google Hangout, and Facetime that seems pretty intuitive and user-friendly.
You can create an account here, where you basically sign in with Twitter, and then you’ll have access to watch my Blabs (among others) when they’re live.
While it’s a conversation between myself and a friend, a Blab has the ability to host 4 people per conversation. So, if you’re watching the Blab and want to join, you have the ability to call in and chat with us! If that’s too weird, you can use the chat bar on the side to comment and ask questions.
I’m hopeful to create an interactive, nonjudgemental, funny dialogue about motherhood! Sure, it’ll be most relevant to women who have children, but you don’t have to be a mom to to join us! As long as you’re not an asshole, we honor “the more the merrier” mindset.
February 2, Stephanie of Olive & Tate: Stephanie is basically my spirit animal who I got connected with thanks to our mutual friend, Caroline. Stephanie’s banter and wit genuinely make me laugh out loud, and I’m so thankful that she’s willing to kick of this series with me! Stephanie is a boy mom, girl boss, and all around bad ass who I can’t wait to talk about motherhood and drink wine with her.
February 9, Courtney of Sweet Tooth Sweet Life: Courtney is one of the sweetest people ever, and she is the only mom friend who won’t have the ability to pour a glass of wine because she’s expecting Baby #2! Courtney is a friend who I send Christmas cards to and text about things that aren’t IO (internet official, duh) and I am so so so excited to chat with her about ALL THE THINGS.
February 16, Melissa of Freeing Imperfections: Melissa has become a fast friend of mine as we have babies who are weeks apart in age. We’ve experienced many of the same trials and triumphs this year in an uncanny synchronicity. We both became stay-at-home-moms this year as well, and she’s truly someone I can text and say “WTF?!” to at any moment, and she gets that motherhood is hard. I can’t wait to talk to her about all the things we’ve experienced as new moms this past year!
February 23, TBA: I have someone in the works, and I think it’ll be worth the surprise!
I am beyond excited for this little series, and I genuinely hope you’ll join us every Tuesday in February at 8pm EST!!
