I’d Hug Ya if I Could!

Hi, blog friends! A big thanks to all of you for your kind words about it being okay to vent from time to time. I’d hug each of ya if I could!

Try and tell me that’s not so cute ;)

I know this blog my place to do whatever I want (that sounds bossy), but I don’t want to bore you fabulous readers with my mundane annoyances ;)

After work I spent some quality time at the gym. My fitness ADD was in full swing today. Proof:

  • 15 minutes on the stair master
  • 10 minutes hill/speed walking (incline 5.5, speed 3.6)
  • 15 minutes on the stair master again
  • 20 minutes on the elliptical

I tried to make my switches during the commercial breaks. Gotta love Law & Order marathons ;)

In the food arena, I’m try to make this week interesting: I’m not buying groceries this week.

No, this is not a crash diet ;)

I normally spend a good chunk of change on my weekly Sunday grocery trips. I don’t know about you, but money doesn’t grow on trees in my neighborhood – and after a fun week of spring break, I could afford to save a couple a dollar bills ;)

So my new “challenge” is to eat most of my meals at the dining hall (because a free meal plan is included with my assistantship) with the exception of dinner on class nights. The food at this dining hall is noteworthy as there are a wide variety of options – even an entire gluten-free station. But I’ve shied away from the dining hall this year because:

  1. I like to know exactly what I’m putting into my mouth
  2. Not being able to eat cereal whenever I want makes me slightly anxious
  3. Being unable to find a seat during the “meal rush” is mildly obnoxious.
  4. Let’s be serious – who doesn’t need to run to the bathroom after eating 90% of the food served in a college dining hall?

The real challenge is going to be not gaining 5 pounds. Self-control and planning have to be my top priorities. I mean, fries and soft serve available at every meal? That should be illegal ;)

I’ll do my best to frequent the salad bar

And try not to “sample” something from every station ;)

We’ll see how it goes!

Let’s chat – What are/were your dining hall tips in college? Do you ever feel like you can’t make up your mind when you’re working out? Random – would you be interested in me posting a video post sometime soon? I normally love it when bloggers post videos and answer silly questions, just because I like to hear what their voices sound like!

Well the best tip I have about dining halls is to stay away from ranch dressing! I used to put it on everything and there came the five pounds! Stick to the veggie options and such! At least maybe the food is better than ODU! And I think I would be open to video blogging, but I think my voice sounds funny on video :)

I had to hold off of grocery shopping about a week ago because of money. Except, I didnt have the luxury of awesome food like that–I had to stick to eggs and pasta and beans that I had haha.

Salad bars and sandwiches are good for me at college. I just try to stay away from the pizza and the chinese. There are always healthy options!

I always liked to go into the dining hall knowing what I was going to get! Whether it be making a salad or veggie wrap, or grabbing whatever fish with steamed veggies they had, it prevented me from even going to look at the other gross options they had!

does the dining hall not have a cereal station!? Both the colleges I attended did, and I can just imagine that would be your personal heaven!!!

Do a vlog for sure!! I never had to deal with the dining hall situation but I would probably hit the salad bar and grab some veggies :)

Oh, sure, go ahead and steal one of my posts I’ve got lined up! haha, totally kidding. But ironically enough, I’ve pledged to limit my grocery shopping this week, too! I have no dining hall to go to but my problem is that I know I have plenty of stuff to use up rather than buying new produce.
It sounds like your school has a great dining hall, and if you’ve got a meal plan use that baby! And another vote “YES!” on the vlog :]
[p.s. I got the bars today - thank you SO much, once again!! I can't wait to dig in!!]

Really?! Trust me, your post will have MUCH better pictures :) Yeah, I figured it’s silly for me to spend all this money when I can get most of it for free. So, we’ll see how it goes. I’m so glad you got the bars!! I hope you enjoy them!! :)

I stuck to the salad bar as much as possible when I lived at school…but the soft serve ice cream got me every time. Now that I’m at home I can’t walk to the kitchen and whip up a twist cone, so I really don’t feel bad about taking advantage of the ice cream station in college :).

I have actually never eaten in any of the dining halls on my campus. I few pople have told me that everything taste sort of the same…which didn’t sound great to me. I also didn’t think a dining plan was ever right for me so I just skipped it all together! I always spend way too much money on grocery trips though so I can relate!

Oh my god i LOVE this post! I always used to try to stick to the salad bar or grilled foods area in college!! dining halls can be really tough though. Especially when the dessert bar always looks so good! And if I go into the gym without a plan it DOES NOT go well! I always have to think ahead!
