I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends

My friends are the best.

They make silly faces with me in public.

They assist me when I want to canoe in a man-made lake.

They “Colleen’s had too much to drink” dance with me.

They don’t mind that I have no shame.

And they motivate me! Today I was g-chatting with my friend Ashley and we were both half-complaining that we didn’t want to work out this afternoon.

I was tired. She had been having a rough day. But we both got off around the same time and I said “I’ll work out if you work out.” And that was it. Even though she’s in Philly and I’m in Fairfax, it was all I needed to get my butt into gear.

When I got home, I thought about not working out. I thought about having a bowl of cereal instead, even though I wasn’t hungry. I even said out loud to no one but myself “I just don’t feel like it.”

Let’s be serious, the fact that I was complaining out loud to myself was alarming. I knew Ashley was going to go to the gym, but I would have felt like such an ass if I told her I just didn’t feel like it.

And no one enjoys feeling like a jackass πŸ˜‰

So I popped in P90X and managed a sweaty workout. I feel better than I did when I got home this afternoon. I felt sluggish and bored after work. Now I don’t! I’m so thankful I had Ashley to motivate me :)

    I will have to be corny and say that you and Ms. Whitley motivate me the most. I read your blog and remember no I said no carbs, put the noodles down! haha! But it works! Losing the lbs. and counting!

      You’re too nice to me :) I can’t believe you’re stilllll not eating carbs!! I would have jumped off a bridge months ago! :)

    What motivates me is trying to remember how good I always feel after I get some exercise in. And I’d much rather work out by myself… I like to march to the beat of my own drum…

    I like running with other people! I still pop my headphones in so I get some alone time. When the LCs would go for group runs and when I run with Phillip, it seems to push everyone just a little harder :)

    When I first stared my weight loss journey- my daughter motivated me. After all, I was her role model. I certainly didn’t want to pass all my bad habits onto my most precious gift! It has taken me years to get to what I am about to say next- but I motivate me now. I have had a shift in thinking and now the motivation comes from within me. I am very new to this feeling-so I am not really sure what it means, but I think it is going to be important to my journey!!!!
