From the Archives (HBD, Mom!)

I’ve never done this before, but I’m recycling a post. I think I said it pretty well last year, so I wanted to bring it up again today on a very special day. I hope you don’t mind :)

Let me tell you about Kate.

My mom is the best woman I’ve ever known. She’s my best friend and my hero. She’s the one person who knows me better than I know myself (and still likes me anyway.)

She’s the kind of mom who made me feel beautiful even when I was chubby and had braces and glasses. She makes me feel smart, even though I can barely do long division. She usually laughs at my jokes and she always answers the phone when I call.

She’ll listen to me gab about the most random things, and she’ll always seem interested. She’ll sit and do nothing with me, even though it’s terribly difficult for her to sit still. She’ll do anything for anyone, and not ask for a thing in return.

She’s the kind of woman who’ll drink you under the table on Saturday and beat you to church on Sunday.

Kate has always helped me put things into perspective. I used to complain about my brother being annoying (sorry, Brian) and her response was always the same: multiply this by seven.

She’s the kind of mom who will shop with me, even though she’d rather watch football.

There’s not one person on the face of this Earth who’s met Kate and doesn’t love her. Babies love her. Teens love her. Her friends love her. Your local gangsters would probably love her too.

She’s the woman who showed me that friendships are about quality, not quantity.

She is, in a word, the best. I love talking to her. I love being with her. I love that she’s been the most wonderful mother a girl could ever ask for.

And when I grow up, I wanna be like Kate.

Happy birthday, Mommy!!
