This weekend, Cory and I celebrated Jack’s first birthday party with our closest family and friends. It’s absolutely mind-blowing that we have a one-year-old, and I’d be lying if I said I have my mind wrapped around the fact that we made it through the first year.
If you caught my latest post on Scary Mommy, you won’t be surprised that we hosted an adult friendly brunch for our son’s first birthday. Jack is happiest in the morning, which is why I went with the brunch theme, and our guests started to arrive around 10:30am. I was convinced he would veer from his schedule that day by sleeping later than normal, not napping or napping too long, or becoming overwhelmed by so many guests, but he was like a well-oiled machine and was happy the entire time. That’s a win, friends!
My mom, my brother and his fiance, and my two life-long friends, Whitney and Lindsay were in town all weekend, and I was beyond grateful for their help the day of the party. As for the theme of life: it takes a village!
We served mimosas and bloody mary’s for the adults, because what’s brunch without alcohol? I wanted to make sure we had a good mix of both lunch and breakfast-y foods, so we served fruit, chicken salad and croissants, pasta salad, a french toast casserole, a bacon, egg, and cheese baguette, a donut tree, and a super
classy delicious Costco cake .
We opted out of a cake smash and I think we made a good call by asking our guests to help Jack fill his bookshelves and not his toy box, because I think our house would burst at the seams if we added one more toy to the mix. I didn’t stress about hosting a Pinterest perfect first birthday party (because, why?) and I got to spend quality time with the people I love most.
I may or may not have had a “moment” when I realized my baby is now a toddler, but I honestly couldn’t be more excited to see what year two holds for my favorite little boy!
