Ch-ch-ch-chia Overload! (Give Away!)

Remember how I told you that we’re up and moving in a matter of weeks? That process involves packing up all of newly unpacked apartment, and getting rid of excess stuff we’ve accumulated during our six months of marriage.

I’m bad at getting rid of things because I think that as soon as I toss it/give it away I’ll need it 48 hours later. You know what I mean?

Well, I’ve been hoarding The Chia Company chia seeds for a while now.

The company sent me a bunch of chia and I’ve been using it every day since. In my oats. My smoothies. My muffin, cookie, and casserole recipes. Everything.

Why do I like chia so much?

It’s a SUPER super food:  Chia is the richest plant based source of Omega 3, dietary fibre, protein and antioxidants. (source)

It does a body good: Chia is a great food for my diet because it helps increase my energy level, it keeps me full longer which helps me maintain a healthy weight, and keeps my heart healthy.

I’m vain: Believe it or not, because chia contains tons of Omega 6, it helps keep my skin healthy – and it also slows the process of aging. Chia is also loaded with protein, which helps keep my hair healthy!

Even though it’s super great, you can see I have a surplus on my hands. Every time Cory walks into our pantry he yells an obscenity followed by “chia!!”

Clearly he does not appreciate this super food.

Help me get rid of some of it. I want to send two bags to THREE readers just leave a comment telling me how you like (or would like) using chia! I’ll pick the winners on Friday morning!!

**EDIT TO ADD: Here are the chia winners!! Congrats ladies! Email me your shipping info by Sunday to lunchboxdiaries@gmail.com

I have hair loss due to Alopecia and just this week read about the great strides Chia makes in restoring hair growth. Now I want to add it to everything I can and see if it helps!

Yay Chia! I loooooove this stuff. It goes in everything that I remember to toss it into – fruit/yogurt bowls, smoothies, oatmeal, black bean burgers, salad, etc… etc. YUM!

I’d just love to try them. especially in my oatmeal or anything else you recommend. I’m weird about trying new things like this but after your rave review I feel that I need to!

I would LOVE to win the chia, I have seen it added to oats, make chia “pudding” and lots more, it seems very very versatile! I would love to try it!! I would use it in oats, smoothies, and try the pudding, and even look up more recipes just to try to incorporate chia in my diet!!

  11. Sarah says

I eat oatmeal and yogurt everyday! Sadly, I’ve never had the chance to use chia seeds! I’ve been using flaxseed a lot…so it would be fun to change it up a bit :)

I loveeee putting chia in my oatmeal. it makes it thicker and yummy! i also like it on whole wheat toast w/ peanut butter before a long run to keep me energized!

  13. Kristen says

I actually haven’t gotten to try chia seeds out yet! I think I’d most enjoy them in my overnight oats or regular warm oatmeal for the thickness!

  14. says

I love putting chia in my smoothies or oats. If you put it in oats then you can put more liquid in and get more volume. More food for less calories is always a win in my opinion. :)

On a random side note, is that chia ground? Or is it just white chia seeds?

  15. Elle says

I love using chia seeds in my morning oatmeal, but I also love making a chia pudding with cocoa powder, milk, water, and a little nutella. Topped with strawberries? Godly, plus a totally healthy (…ish) dessert!

  16. says

I’ve never had chia seeds before but they sound pretty rockin’! I’d be willing to try them in anything that makes sense, I suppose, hah! In smoothies or yogurt… google tells me I can toss it in stir fry or mix with salad dressing… all sound good to me!!

  17. says

I’ve never tried chia before, but I would love to use it in my regular baked goods for an added health boost. I love baking things like cookies and muffins, but they’re obviously not always the most healthy goodies to have. Seems like chia seeds would add some much needed fiber and extra nutritious deliciousness!

  18. Annie says

I’ve been reading your blog/ healthy living blogs for a while now, but this is my first comment ever! I keep reading about how amazing chia seeds are, but I have yet to try them! I’d love to try some out in my smoothies and yogurt bowls.

I have never used chia seeds and every time I’m at the store I stare at them and wonder what they taste like and how I could incorporate them into my diet. This would be the perfect opportunity for me to try adding them to my yogurt and sprinkling them on my whole wheat pb&j.

  24. says

First of all, congrats on the move! So exciting. I’d throw chia seeds on top of yogurt messes (yogurt, cereal, fruit, nut butter – whatever…that’s why it’s called a mess), smoothies and oatmeal. And that’s hilarious that you’ve been hoarding all those bags!!!!

How funny, I recently, as in last week, found out about chia seeds!

My trainer makes a chocolate Chai pudding that is weird looking but soooo tasty, I’ll get the recepie for you asap.

I also put it in my oatmeal since she gave me a travel size bag but it didn’t last long.

I haven’t had an opportunity to cook with them, but I LOVE chia warrior bars. 100cal and tons of portable energy. Love. I want to try to add them into a savory risotto (no idea if this would work. Experiment!)

So many interesting recipes, though. I want to try them all!!
